Belize offers the perfect blend of luscious greenery, picturesque beaches, adventure, and relaxation, making it a bucket list destination for families and couples alike. It has the world’s second-largest barrier reef, ancient Maya ruins, and can be considered more unspoilt than some of the mainstream Caribbean destinations.

One of the Caribbean and Central America’s most accessible destinations for British travellers, it has relatively straightforward requirements for short trips. However, you do need to check things like the passport validity rules, visa allowances and any transit requirements before travelling. In this piece we’ve put together the entry requirements for Belize to ensure your journey is as smooth as possible so you can get down to the important things, like relaxing!

Passport Requirements for Belize from the UK

British travellers visiting Belize must hold a valid passport with an expiry date more than three months beyond their stay. While this is the UK Government advice, some airlines recommend having at least six months’ validity remaining to avoid boarding issues. To avoid any issues, if your passport is coming up for renewal in the next half a year or so, it could be worth getting it renewed for peace of mind.

Visa Requirements for UK Travellers to Belize

British passport holders don’t currently need a visa if heading for less than 30 days. If you want to extend your stay it costs 200 Belize dollars for each additional 30 days so factor this cost in for your trip. You should be granted entry on arrival by immigration officials, but might be asked for:

  • Proof of onward or return travel
  • Accommodation details
  • Evidence of sufficient funds for your stay

It’s worth having these things either printed out or saved on your phone before you head to Belize for smooth entry.

Arrival and Immigration Forms

Visitors arriving in Belize are required to complete an Immigration and Customs form. This can be filled out digitally before your travel to receive a QR code, or manually on the plane.

Health and Vaccination Requirements for Belize

There are currently no mandatory vaccinations for most travellers entering Belize directly from the UK. However, travellers arriving from countries where yellow fever is present may need to provide proof of yellow fever vaccination.

It’s recommended you take out comprehensive travel insurance covering medical treatment, excursions, and emergency evacuation where necessary, just to be on the safe side.

Travelling with Children to Belize

Families travelling with children should ensure that minors have the correct travel documentation. Children travelling with only one parent or guardian may need a consent letter from the absent parent, so it’s worth having this with you to avoid any delay when you get to immigration.

Check Official Advice Before You Travel

Entry requirements can change, so travellers should always check the latest official guidance before departure through the UK Foreign Office travel advice pages and Belize immigration authorities. This helps avoid any issues further down the line and means you’re always up to date with the latest information.

Belize is a beautiful country with so much to offer that you’re guaranteed a break of a lifetime. By checking the entry requirements for Belize before you go, you won’t run into any unexpected issues once you arrive. Instead you can breeze through immigration, get your bags, and start your holiday before you can even say rum punch…
